Kitka Kollektiivi: The Bugging Thing
Swish, bang, slap... We slap, curse and think mosquitoes and other bugs are a real pain in the butt. We’d rather close our ears to their annoying whine. However, it is the insects that keep the cycle of life going on Earth. Without them, there wouldn’t be us. For example, the disappearance of bees would start a chain reaction: soon, there would be no seeds, no plants, no fruits. The animals that eat bees would disappear, and subsequently, so would the next carnivores in the food chain. Do human beings have any role in the great cycle of life as useful as a bee or a mosquito?
In their new contemporary dance work, The Bugging Thing, Kitka Kollektiivi wants to praise the world of insects. It is time to humble ourselves before the guardians of the life cycle, the invaluable pollinators, the diligent decomposers of organic matter, the enablers of change and all things new. The human race has fundamentally failed to maintain the balance of nature. To coexist, we must abandon our destructive ways and cultivate compassion extending to all the inhabitants of our planet.
Though necessary, it is also enchanting and liberating to detach for a moment from thinking like and being a human being.
Kitka Kollektiivi
